Thousands of children walk through the doors of Riley's Children's Hospital every year. By participating in this bake sale, students helped these kids!

Student Council is doing something new and exciting this year! To show our appreciation for our beloved teachers and staff student council is making appreciation videos throughout the entire year that are posted on this website. IASC Leadership Conference
Student council officers and a few other selected leaders were given the amazing opportunity to go to the Indiana Assosciation of Student Council’s Leadership Conference on Saturday, November 11. Participants learned about the elements needed to have a successful council and got to listen to some amazing keynote speakers. All members of RCMS Student Council had a fun day at this state wide event.
Spirit Week Food Drive
Something student council tries to do every year is give to the food pantry during the holiday season. Given that Thanksgiving is right around the corner, student council put on a spirit week and a food drive. To participate in the spirit week events, students had to bring in canned items to their homeroom teacher. We had some pretty amazing examples of spirit! Our total number of items collected was 1,005! We also promised that the homeroom that donated the most food items would receive a donut party curiosity of student council. The winner of that competition is Mrs.Zacher’s homeroom with 136 items! Thanks so much to everyone who participated! You are really helping out our local community. All donations are being donated to our local food pantry.
Movie Night
On Friday November 17, student council had a movie night! It was a huge success. Around 50 students, excluding student council members, came to watch The Jungle Book and Wreck it Ralph. Student council made about $150 off of admissions and popcorn at this event. Our popcorn was generously donated by ConAgra! All of the proceeds from this event will be going to our dance and events in the future!
Candy Cane Grams
This is student council’s second year selling candy canes grams to celebrate the Christmas season. This year we made $100 off of this event! We sold candy canes for 3 for a dollar, which means that we sold 300 candy canes in all! We hope all recipitants enjoyed their candy canes! This money will go towards future events, such as movie nights, dances, and many others.
Planning Season
Student Council is currently in it’s “planning season.” We are working on future events, our state project, and our end of the year dance. On of th future events includes something for teacher appreciation.
Valentine’s Day Suckers
Can you believe it is already February? Student Council celebrated the love and friendship truly present at RCMS by giving students the opportunity to buy valentine suckers for one another. We sold 64 bundles suckers for a dollar so we made $64. The proceeds from this event will go towards a student in our school system who is medically in need.
How We Impact People
At our last meeting, we completed our state project. The goal was to do an exercise that shows how much we leave our mark on people we encounter. Members who worked on this project simulated the situation of a new student. The new student, “Yellowy”, was then ridiculed by the students as each student tore off a piece of the paper made student. To represent how we tear up people as we bully them. Then the students were instructed to put the student back together. After a lot of hard work, the result was defiantly not satisfactory compared to the original “Yellowy.” Overall, the exercise helped students learn many things. First, we leave a huge impact on students who we bully. Secondly, it takes a lot of work to put the student “back together.” Lastly, a bullied student will NEVER be the same.
Clothing Drive and Spirit Week
Student council had a clothing drive from March 12 through the 16. We brought in a total of approximately 1,280 items!!! We had a contest to see which grade could bring in the most items throughout the week. Sixth grade won with approximately 530 items. Seventh grade was a close second with about 450. Eighth grade brought in about 300 items. We challenged classes that if they brought in so many items, certain faculty items would get pied in the face. We are were so proud that ALL of the members would be pied in the face! To get students excited for this we also had a spirt week this same week. All of the clothes brought in will go towards student in need throughout the school system. Thank you to everyone who donated!
